Four children were involved in an accident when the head of the swing carousel, in Cresta Shopping Centre’s arcade, fell over mid-ride.

However, none of the children were injured, confirm Cresta’s management.

A statement issued by public relations officer, Melissa Douman, on behalf of Cresta’s general manager, Virginia Bester, stated that the incident happened at around 10.30am on 28 January.

The statement confirmed Cresta Shopping Centre management responded to the incident within minutes to offer immediate assistance to the four children on the ride and the families and shoppers who were in the area at the time.

“We can confidently report that all four children were rushed to the medical suite for professional evaluation following the incident and none of them sustained any injuries,” it read.

An investigation is currently underway and centre management has made contact with the owner of Route 66 (the arcade centre), outside of which the carousel was situated. Feedback will be released once the investigation and safety assessment has been completed.

“The safety of our shoppers is a high priority and of utmost importance to us; as a result, the area, which includes the bowling area, merry-go-round and arcade games has been closed off indefinitely, pending the investigation. We have spoken to the parents and have also recorded their contact details to keep abreast of the situation and to offer any assistance related to this matter,” the statement concluded.

One resident posted on the Randpark Ridge Community Facebook page, “Thank goodness our son decided to go play; instead of swinging. Little girl got hurt but luckily my husband reacted quick and got her out the chair she was stuck in.”
