Coffee Shop delight

Casa do Sol School had its much-anticipated Coffee Shop event on 27 January.

Principal Jenny Drew said the event, which is open to the public, forms part of the school-to-work programme and takes place every third Friday in a term, between 10pm and 12 pm.

The public is encouraged to attend and get to know the staff and what the school is about. The pupils bake what will be served and they do the waitressing themselves. “This is also a wonderful opportunity for students to build their confidence and interact with people. The menu includes refreshments such as tea, coffee, savoury, cakes and soft drinks. All proceeds go to the Coffee Shop,” said Drew.

The event is normally held in the garden but it was moved to the school hall due to the rain.

Pupil Amanda Shiburi enjoyed helping the teachers out, waitressing, and seeing people appreciating the refreshments.

Visitor Gloria Davidson said she had been attending the event for the past five years and was happy with the menu and great service. “It is such an incredible school, one that makes an effort to bring the learners specific talents. We are glad that the rainy weather didn’t affect the event – although I do prefer it outside in the beautiful garden,” she said.
