Two cops in the dock for corruption

Two police officers are in the dock for corruption.

Two police officers who were stationed at Johannesburg Central Police Station at the time of their arrest are in the dock for corruption.

Constable Mzamani Chauke and Constable Nkosana Ngobe are accused of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

The two police officers are accused of allegedly releasing a robbery suspect and taking a R4 000 bribe from the suspect in return for his release.

It is understood that the suspect allegedly robbed a Rage Store in the CBD but was apprehended shortly afterwards by a private security company. The suspect was then handed over to the two police officers who were patrolling the area. They then allegedly released the suspect before getting to the police station.

Their trial will continue on 6 and 11 October and 1 November.
