UPDATE: City needs to approve Jacaranda Avenue upgrade

Construction of a new residential complex in Olivedale is in progress.

A report about the Jacaranda Avenue upgrade was already submitted at the City of Joburg Council.

Balwin Properties managing director Rodney Gray said they are awaiting City’s approval before commencing with the construction.

Road upgrade is expected to alleviate the flow of traffic on Jacaranda Avenue.

Road upgrade is expected to alleviate the flow of traffic on Jacaranda Avenue.

He explained that they had budgeted for R18 million to make the entire Jacaranda Avenue into a dual carriage from Windsor Way to Hornbill Road.

“We wanted to start right away but we couldn’t, because Joburg Road Agency (JRA) needs to approve our construction first,” Gray said.

He further added that approval by the City was the only stumbling block standing in their way.

Gray concluded that they were hoping to start with the construction as soon as possible if not by early February or March next year.

The project includes road widening, intersection upgrades and signalisation and would hopefully alleviate the flow of traffic in the area.

Ward 101 Councillor Ralf Bittkau said he negotiated with the developers as residents were worried about traffic congestion.

Balwin developers were building a residential complex in Olivedale and construction has already started on site.

Councillor Bittkau confirmed that he managed to convince developers to implement changes to Jacaranda Avenue and make the road into double lanes.
