2016 Matric pass rate at 76.2 per cent

The 2016 national senior certificate results have shown an improvement compared to the 2015 results.

The grade 12 class of 2016 has achieved a 76.2 per cent pass rate, an increase from the 74 per cent of 2015. This was announced by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga on 4 January.

Announcing the results, the minister highlighted that the class of 2016 was the biggest that the department has ever had.

Compared to other provinces, Gauteng didn’t do very well. Although the province had an increase of 1.1 per cent compared to the 2015 results, it came third nationally with an 87 per cent pass rate.  Leading the pack is the Free State Province which achieved over 90 per cent pass rate and then followed by the Western Cape which achieved 87.7 per cent.
