WATCH: Joburg Today – Inner city revitalisation programme

A thorough inspection has been executed of City owned properties made available for the purposes of creating quality low cost housing within the inner city.

Herman Mashaba, Mayor of Johannesburg, MMC for Economic Development, Leah Knott, together with City officials from Group Forensic Investigative Department, the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO), the Johannesburg Property Company have collaborated in the programme.

Anthony Ngcezula, CEO of JOSHCO, says that “people are in need of decent and affordable accommodation and the private sector is not offering that right now”. He feels that the company is in an ideal position to offer what they need.

Construction is set to begin within the next six to eight months, and will span inner city regions as well as the outer limits such as Soweto.
