UPDATE: An investigation is underway following the hijacking of a vehicle at Bel Air Shopping Centre

Douglasdale police are investigating a case of hijacking which took place at Bel Air Shopping Centre.

Captain Mpho Kgasoane, spokesperson for Douglasdale Police Station, said the hijacking allegedly took place on 2 October at about 7pm.

A couple were in their Land Rover in the shopping centre parking lot when they were allegedly approached by two armed men. One of the armed men approached the passenger side while the other approached the driver side.

The suspects then instructed the couple to move to the back seat of the vehicle and then drove off with them. The victims were later dropped along Christian De Wet Road before the suspects allegedly made off with their vehicle.

Randburg Sun previously reported that Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele had scheduled a meeting with the shopping centre and its security to address the recent challenges with crime.

Residents shared their frustrations and concerns regarding the increase of crime at the shopping centre on Facebook.

Kgasoane said an investigation is underway but no arrests have been made as yet.
