Cellphone and vehicle tracking devices were instrumental in the arrest of a suspect in Blairgowrie, who is alleged to have murdered his wife on 13 November.

New information has come to light after a woman was murdered in Brackenhurst, Alberton. Brakenhurst police spokesperson, Sergeant Lindi Moloi confirmed to Randburg Sun that the woman was shot nine times, allegedly by her soon-to-be ex-husband.

According to Moloi, the woman and her husband had been separated for three years. It is unclear at this stage why the suspect was at the victim’s home.

According to Night Guard security’s Zaine Eblen, whose team responded to the incident, the victim was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical services. Night Guard’s tactical operation team along with police, Metro police and other response teams worked together to track down the suspect.

“We tracked his [suspect] cellphone and vehicle tracker to a house in Blairgowrie and the Night Guard team arrived first on scene and waited for the police,” said Eblen. “The house was surrounded and before the police could arrive, the suspect walked out of the house with an unknown object in his hand. Our team had no choice but to apprehend the suspect before the police arrived.” Police arrived shortly afterwards.

Moloi said the suspect was found to be in possession of a licensed firearm and an unlicensed one and was taken into custody.
