Hard work pays off for matriculants

Nicholas Meyer obtained 10 distinctions.

St Stithians Boys’ College is pleased with the 100 per cent pass rate achieved after the results were released by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB).

With 155 candidates, 150 qualified for bachelor’s degree studies while five candidates qualified for diploma studies or a higher certificate.

The college also achieved 333 distinctions and three boys achieved the college’s Academic Honours summa Cum Laude award which is an average of 90 per cent or more.

Nicholas Meyer was the top achiever, excelling with 10 distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics, physical sciences, accounting, business studies, life science, Trinity College music and life orientation.


Christopher du Plessis obtained eight distinctions.


Michael Nothnagel obtained eight distinctions.

He was followed by Christopher du Plessis and Michael Nothnagel who obtained eight distinctions each, while Craig Meier and Michael Thackwray achieved seven.

The college’s spokesperson Lethabo-Thabo Royds said they acknowledge the contributions of the teachers at the preparatory schools of St Stithians College, as well as those of other primary schools who educated the matrics.

“We celebrate and give thanks for the outstanding achievements in the IEB examinations of our 2017 matric students in the Boys’ College of St Stithians. At this major moment in the annual school calendar, we have an opportunity to reflect on, and appreciate, the joint contributions of our students, teachers and parents.

“Together, our classes have lived out the intent of St Stithians to inspire excellence and make a world of difference. We affirm our commitment as St Stithians to the education of young people of character, who make an impact as leaders and citizens, shaped by a Methodist church ethos,” said Royds.
