Linden swimming pool closed due to maintenance

Swimming schools also use the Linden Swimming Pool.

Residents who want to cool off in the Linden Swimming Pool due to the summer heat will have to look for other alternatives.

The closure of the pool is due to an electrical fault on the switchgear. This switch supplies electricity to the main motor that enables the filtration and heating system to operate.

The decision to close the pool was taken on 28 February because it was assessed that the water is unhygienic, and the City of Johannesburg said they could not expose bathers to this.

Linden Swimming Pool will open until the end of April after maintenance is complete.

The City’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development, Councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba, assured residents that repairs will be attended to with the greatest of speed.

“I would like to apologise for the inconvenience and the disruption of swimming pool services to the people of Linden during this time,” said Sifumba.

“As a City, we are committed to offering services in a manner that assures meaningful redress. The closure is unfortunate, but the health and safety of our bathers are paramount. We will do our best to resolve this issue as soon as it is safely possible. The City of Joburg is committed to ensuring the safety of bathers in its swimming pools.”

The Linden pool has been part of the community for 54 years and is among the oldest pools in the city.

According to Sifumba, its age is a contributing factor to the less than optimal operation of the pool.

The Community Development Department is working tirelessly to ensure that the electrical fault is resolved in the shortest possible time to allow bathers the opportunity to enjoy the pool during the swimming season which has been extended to the end of April, she said.

Ward 99 councillor, Nicole van Dyk said she was aware of the closure and that the pool should be ready for use as soon as possible.

She added that it was imperative to solve the problem as there are many local swimming clubs that use the pool as well as the community.

Residents of Linden are encouraged to use the following nearby swimming pools while the pool is being attended to:
