MUST READ: Elderly person dead in violent Ysterhout Drive robbery

Honeydew police vehicles respond to a crime on Ysterhout Drive.

One person has died after a violent house robbery on Ysterhout Drive in Randpark Ridge on the afternoon of 9 March.

According to Honeydew police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, an elderly husband and wife were having afternoon tea and cakes with friends when two suspects armed with knives jumped over the wall. The suspects broke a rear window to the house and entered the lounge where the friends were sitting.

One suspect grabbed hold of the female guest, threatening to stab her. The owner of the house (76) tried to intervene and was stabbed during the struggle. He, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries and died on the scene.

Fidelity ADT security responded minutes later, but by the time they arrived on the scene, the suspects had escaped with cash, jewellery, electronics and the visitors’ white Mercedes Benz.
An investigation is underway and the suspects are still at large.

Details: Honeydew police 011 801 8400.
