The Glass Recycling Company’s (TGR) annual schools competition, has officially been launched for this year.

The much-anticipated fifth edition of the eco-competition invites schools to get invited and make a difference in the environment.

The Glass Recycling Company CEO Shabeer Jhetam said the purpose of the competition is to create awareness of glass recycling in schools and communities. The competition officially launched in February.

“It’s vital that learners know the benefits of recycling glass and the difference it will make to the environment. This competition serves to educate learners about the importance of glass recycling, encourage the continued behaviour of recycling and also for them to have fun,” said Jhetam.

He said they will have the opportunity to use their knowledge to encourage change within their communities and families.

The idea is to challenge the school in your area to collect the most glass during the year. Schools from Gauteng, Western Cape, Port Elizabeth, East London and KwaZulu-Natal are welcome to enter and stand a chance to win great prizes.

Schools which can win monthly prizes and a grand prize. The monthly prizes range from R500 to R1 500, while the grand prizes range from R10 000 to R30 000.

All participating schools must complete the entry form and new schools that will be participating for the first time are required to fill in the glass bank application form in order to qualify to participate in the competition.
