Metro police issue 81 fines during Sharonlea operation

Motorists warned to obey the law.

Metro police issued 81 fines at a recent road safety enforcement operation.

This was part of the Metro police’s effort to make roads safer for motorists and pedestrians by enforcing the rules of the road.

The operation was conducted on the corner of Malibongwe and President Fouché drives.

Officers stop taxis and ensure that they are roadworthy.

Officers stopped 98 vehicles and searched 37 of them and 15 people were searched during the operation.

This comes after Metro police Superintendent Wayne Minnaar had warned motorists earlier this year to obey the rules of the road or pay a hefty price for breaking them. Vehicles that were not roadworthy would be impounded immediately and drunk drivers would face stiff penalties.

Motorists were also warned not to overload their vehicles as this put pressure on tyres and brakes, and all passengers must wear seatbelts.
