A 27-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges of perjury.
It is alleged that the suspect called the police on 2 June to say that she was involved in a robbery.
Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja explained, “She said that she was on duty at one of the funeral groups in Ferndale when a client came in and requested assistance.
“She further claimed that she helped the client, and after that, another client came in wearing a black leather jacket and sat on the chair waiting to be helped. [After] she was done with the first client, the man in the black jacket pulled out a gun and demanded money.”
She alleged that she gave him the money and he left.
A case docket was opened and assigned to a task team.
Detective Constable Lungisani Mtshali investigated the matter and believes there is evidence to prove the so-called victim was not telling the truth. She was arrested for perjury.
Maja continued, “We would like to warn our community not to make false statements or open false cases with the police as this is a crime and you will be arrested if found that you have lied under oath.”
