Johannesburg West Cluster officers and other law enforcement agencies had a stellar weekend of crime-busting after arresting 143 suspects for a variety of crimes on 5 August.
The officers embarked on various operations throughout the weekend in a bid to curb the scourge of crime in their policing precincts.
Operations included detective officers tracing wanted suspects while other police members executed visible policing, and addressed crime through stop and searches, roadblocks and enforcing by-laws.
Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “Approximately 143 suspects were nabbed for various crimes. The suspects were arrested for armed robbery, being in possession of dagga and other drugs, housebreaking, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and drunk and driving to mention few.”
Maja added that in Diepsloot a few cases of child neglect were registered with the police.
“As police officers, we are appealing to the parents to make sure that they know their children’s whereabouts at all times. As much as everyone has rights enshrined in the constitution of the country, children have the right to be taken care of and nurtured in a humane manner.”
All arrested suspects are expected to appear soon in the Roodepoort and Randburg magistrates’ courts.
Johannesburg West Cluster commander Major General Johannes Pharasi said, “I commend the members for their sterling work and encourage them to continue working hard to curb the crime and making people feel safe in this cluster.”
Communities are also encouraged to report any suspicious activities, people, and vehicles to 08600 10111 or anonymously to 32211.
